(July 30) Tim Jones just couldn't live without his favorite runningback. Without ever playing a snap in South Florida, RB LaDainian Tomlinson was dealt back to Canton, along with WR Chris Chambers and RB Kevin Jones, in exchange for QB Marc Bulger, RB Earnest Graham, PK Kris Brown and the Cougars' entire 2008 draft, which includes a first- and two second-round picks.

(August 1) Is it a done deal? Late Thursday night, MFL Impact Online reported that RB Maurice Jones-Drew had been traded to the Chicago Ravens for QB Derek Anderson. However, twenty-four hours have come and gone since the story first broke, yet no confirmed deal has hit Commissioner Drew Kuespert's desk. Thus, party time in Chicago has yet to begin. Scratch that: Murphy's Bleachers is offering shots of Malort for $3 on Sundays.

Dr. K: Was the original trade pointless?
After the dust settled in what Tim Jones prophetically referred to as "shock[ing] the MFL" with the coup to land RB LaDainian Tomlinson once again, we step back to analyze this deal, along with its predecessor in January. Essentially, what we have is L.T. staying in Canton and Kevin Jones, Marc Bulger and Earnest Graham staying in Miami. Therefore, after combining the trades, here's the result: Canton gets Chris Chambers, Shayne Graham and the Mafia's 3rd Round pick, while Miami gets Kris Brown and the Cougars' 1st Round and two 2nd Round picks. Looks like a winner for the Mafia and Dave Wills. Nice job for a guy who rented L.T. for a few months to mow the grass at Dolphin Stadium. Canton doesn't come out as losers by any stretch of the imagination, either. One could easily assess that they "drafted" L.T. with their three '08 picks. Not sure they would have found anyone better in the short term. In addition, when (if?) they cut him at season's end, they'll have all that cap room to draft him next year for a bargain-basement price, like, say, $10 to $12 million. Now that Canton has settled in, what will Miami do? The Mafia now have three picks in the top 17 and tons of cash. Sounds like some maleficence will take place at the draft on Miami's part, don't you think?

Jones unable to attend Draft
Because of a conflict in his schedule, Canton Cougars owner Tim Jones will not be in attendance during the 2008 MFL Draft this season. However, based on the megatrade that took place to snag RB LaDainian Tomlinson back from Miami, Jones needs not draft anyone at runningback nor has any picks to do so anyway.

Fallout: QB Clemons his bread line
QB Kellen Clemons will not be a part of the Miami Mafia squad once Phase II begins on August 3. Clemons became expendable once the Mafia secured the rights to their former starter, Marc Bulger, in the most recent LaDainian Tomlinson trade.

Phase II starts August 3
Phase II of Player Releases will begin on Sunday, August 3 at 12:01am and continue until Sunday, August 10 at 9:59pm EDT. This marks a change from years past as Phase II has been conducted during the week leading up to the MFL Draft. All MFL clubs must have their final, pre-draft roster cuts made one week prior to the draft. Once again, the 2008 MFL Draft is held on Sunday, August 17 at 2:00pm.

RB Williams to be cut next month
The Miami Mafia have decided that RB Cadillac Williams has worn out his welcome. The oft-injured runningback never did develop into the star that Miami had hoped and recent injury reports have indicated that he probably won't be ready for action until well into the coming season. Thus, Miami will cut Cadillac, which will make him the first casualty of the 2008 season. The team acknowledged that Williams is free to persue other avenues, including self-promotion leading up to the MFL Draft, but his release won't become official until Phase II of Player Releases starts on August 3. Williams' demise in Miami will do little to aleviate The Mafia's cap space: after his release is final, Miami will still only have $739,000 to play with heading into the draft.

ICP, Nimoy headline halftime of Super Bowl XI
The MFL front office has pulled off yet another entertainment coup by packing this year's Super Bowl with two headline acts that no one will want to miss! The "Spirit of Truth" Halftime Show, hosted by Reverend X, comes live to the thousands of screaming fans in Saint Louis' Busch Stadium and features none other than Leonard Nimoy and the Insane Clown Posse. No word yet on whether a professional wrestling match will break out or if George Takei and Brad Altman will be present during the festivities, but one thing's for sure: hold on to your hats, folks, 'cuz it'll be a deusey!

Missouri swaps one pick for two
The Missouri Peregrines have traded their second-round pick, the 17th selection overall, to the Canton Cougars in exchange for two lower picks. The move, which gives the Grines Canton's third- and fourth-rounders, included the #26 pick, a selection that the Cougars had traded to Miami in exchange for PK Jason Elam last August, then got back in their megadeal involving RB LaDainian Tomlinson in January.
